We found these cookies on offer in a supermarket in a residential neighborhood in Venice. The saint is depicted on horseback with sword and shield, but without the poor beggar. According to a number of sites on the web it is a tradition in Italy and elsewhere to home-bake cookies for St. Martin's Day (November 11), but many children may prefer the riot of marzipan on this store-bought product.
